Marsiling is a primarily residential neighbourhood so the number of lender offices within the area is limited. However, neighbouring Woodlands which is one MRT stop away on the North-South Line has a higher concentration of licensed moneylender offices. Borrowers can also apply through loan matching platforms like ROSHI to get multiple offers from various moneylenders all across Singapore.
NRIC for Singaporeans and PRs or a valid passport and work pass for foreigners. Proof of income is required including payslips, CPF statements or bank records showing salary credits. Applicants should also bring proof of residential address such as a utility bill, town council letter or HDB statement.
If all required documents are submitted and in order most lenders complete the approval process within 30 minutes to one hour. Disbursement typically occurs on the same day either in cash or via bank transfer. The lender must explain all contract terms before the borrower signs which is a legal requirement and adds some time to your visit.
Only three types of charges are permitted, monthly interest capped at 4% of the outstanding loan amount, a one-time administrative fee of up to 10% of the loan principal and a late payment charge of up to $60 for each month a repayment is missed. Any fee outside these three categories such as upfront deposits, insurance or processing charges is not allowed under the Moneylenders Act.
